From NetAcad to SkillsForAll. New courses, new learning paths

In 2023-2024 we will experience the next evolution of the Cisco Academy platform. Step-by-step we will be moving to the new SkillsForAll platform with more possibilities for teachers and learners. The main focus remains on problem-based learning and practical applications.

More than thirty IT and technology courses are available for your students.  The quality of the learning materials will undergo no change. All courses are highly interactive and rich in media, giving feedback to learners when it is required and allowing teachers to follow up individual students and classes.

Cisco NetAcad Talent Connect Event 22

From challenging internships to rewarding jobs

On 27 October 2022, BiASC and Cisco organised a Talent Connect Event (TCE) for college students in IT infrastructure, networking, and security. The goal is to informally connect students with channel partners offering internships and jobs. Most of the students attending are bachelor's degree students. An equal number are pursuing associate degrees in systems and network administration. There were also a number of master's students and adult education students.

Interesting and challenging internships in IT infrastructure, networks and security are hard to come by for IT students in their last year before graduation. Yet all IT students are able to sign an employment contract for a rewarding job before they graduate.

Wouldn't it be a great idea to create a natural flow from internship to employment? This is the main goal of the Talent Connect event organised by Cisco BeLux, Cisco CXC and Cisco Networking Academy at Cisco headquarters in Machelen/Diegem near Brussels.

About 90 students registered for the Talent Connect event. Most of the participants are interested in an internship before the end of their studies. Fifteen participants are specifically interested in a thesis project.

Academic Degree vs Industrial Skills Certification

There are many interesting discussions about the difference between an academic degree and an industrial skills certification.

An academic qualification is a record of the level of formal education you have achieved.

If you want to know more about this, there are educational frameworks (such as the EQF) that make clear the difference between formal education levels (4, 5, 6, 7 and 8). The main difference between EQF levels is the degree of independence and the degree of complexity of the problems you can solve.

You get an academic qualification for the rest of your life and it does not mean that you are familiar with the latest technological trends.

Industry skills certification expresses your ability to work with the latest technologies. Therefore, they are limited in time.

The well-known Cisco certifications CCNA, CCNP or CCIE are proof that you understand the latest trends at a certain level of complexity. Obtaining more complex certifications will help you climb the career ladder.

NetAcad Conference - Iceland - August 2022 - Cyber Security learning paths, best practices and tools

From 25 until 30 August 2022 a conference for sixty instructors and education managers of Networking Academies was organized in Iceland. Instructor Trainers from BiASC have been active at the conference presenting Cyber Security learning paths, best practices and tools.

Practical Information - Cisco Talent Connection Event - 27 October 2022

If you haven't done so, you can ENROLL via the registration form here

Here is concrete information about the Talent Connection Event on 27 October 2022 for NetAcad students from higher education.

• Every member Networking Academy is able to delegate six students per study program to take part in the event. The students selected should be interested in IT infrastructure, Networks and Cyber Security. 
• The event takes place on 27 October between 9 am and 4 pm. 
• The event location is the Cisco Belux Office and the Cisco TAC Building. All participants will be able to experience the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) and the Customer Experience Center (CXC).
• Students will be able to interact with Cisco Channel Partners offering internships, student projects or jobs in IT infrastructure, Networks and Cyber Security.
• Participating students should be in the final phase before graduation and preparing for CCNA certification, CyperOps or DevASC.
• Channel partners are particularly interested in students with DevNet skills.
• Lunch and drinks are included.

Event Location

• Cisco Diegem Offices, De Kleetlaan 6, 1831 Machelen, Belgium.
  Use the main entrance.
• Part of the event is in the Customer Experience Center (CXC) Building behind the main office building.

BiASC nearly 10 years old | New fee structure for 2022-2023

Before diving into the Summer, we would like to let you know that BiASC will be 10 years old next academic year. We intend to continue working on the human network by informing, inspiring and motivating IT instructors, who have one of the toughest jobs in education. 

 

Every five years BiASC looks closely at the annual fees. After careful consideration, it was decided that the ASC fee will increase by 5%, which is well below the current index rate. This is necessary to make ends meet. In order to provide ongoing online training and accreditation, BiASC is also introducing a new membership fee for instructors of 20 Euros per active instructor. Finally, we would like to highlight the following for the coming months:

Everyone experiences the impact of digital technologies in our economy and society. Digitization has an impact on economic growth, reducing unemployment, improving quality of life, and boosting citizens' access to public services. The demand for IT professionals and employees with basic digital skills to support digitization is huge: currently there are over 750K open ICT jobs in Europe. Attention: if you visit Pair Daiza by car, always give priority to the signs "Pairi Daiza" above the instructions of your GPS.
On certain small roads in the villages around Pairi Daiza, only local traffic is allowed. There are regular police checks.

PARKING
Guests will be able to park in the parking for day visitors.
Entry to these parking lots is without a ticket. A parking ticket is only required to leave at the end of the day.
Parking tickets will be given to participants at the beginning of the seminar.

The picture below shows the reception area of the tipis where guests will be welcomed between 8:30 and 8:45 h. From this reception area you will be shown the way to the meeting room. Breakfast is served in the meeting room.
