Belgian Schools have the opportunity to attend a Student Workshop & Creathon organized by Cisco, BiASC and NASC.
More information: <[email protected]>
Example workshop
Amsterdam 1 February 2017 - Around 75 students from ROC A12 are participating in an IoT Creathon. Coaches: M. Verleun (NASC), Y. Rooseleer (BiASC), Cisco coaches
What's a creathon?
A creathon is an event where students are solving business cases in the domain of Internet of Things, mobile & cloud. There are several stages in the workhops: preparation - forming student teams - learning the problem statement - defining the problem - searching solutions (ideation & creativity) - come up with a solution - present proof of concept (business model, prototype)
Here is an example of a problem statement for a student creathon.
PROBLEM STATEMENT - DIGITAL SERVICES FOR SHOPPING CENTER OWNERS
We are a multidiscplinary team (team name) working for a startup NORAIN.
We develop applications and systems for the retail sector.
Our new customer BLINX, a Benelux based company, owns 25 shopping centers all over the Benelux.
BLINX want to collect and integrate useful information to improve the operations and management of shopping centers, making the tenants, shop owners and retailers happy about the new digital services and possibilities. Also they expect to make better business decisions about future projects.
EXPECTATIONS
FUNCTIONAL
- building intelligence for shopping centers
- intelligent connections: people, process, data, things
- => improve customer experience; engaging the shopper; recognize people, lifestyle, gender, ...
- => improve logistics, transportation, ...
- => The solution has to consist of a new digital IoT service for our customer BLINX, that will improce their relations with shop tenants
TECHNICAL
=>access to all data in once place for BLINX management (data lake)
=> combine data to get new information to allow BLINX to find opportunities
=> add new IoT data sources to create a bigger, better and up-to-date data lake
Getting access to this will give BLINX a competitive advantage in their field in addition to give them a value proposition to negotiate better rents with their tenants as they also can benefit from the products.
DATA SOURCES
INTEGRATING DATA => DATA LAKE => BIG DATA
Collecting all data sources, enriching the data with useful information like weather data, bank holidays, ...
Capturing and storing real-time data => wifi, cameras, sensors, ...
REAL-TIME vs BATCH processing
TO DO
Develop a Proof of Concept for your solution => inspiration, creativity, empathy, solution, description, presentation.
