During the month of October 2023 there is a challenging competition "European Cybercup" for non-IT students about Cybersecurity an other essential digital and team skills.

EuropeanCyberCup - Intro To Cyber - 23 October to 19 November 2023

Networking Academy and SkillsForAll are inviting Networking Academy instructors to enroll students in the new "Introduction to CyberSecurity" course on the new SkillsForAll platform. The goal is to involve new IT students enrolled at your academy. It is possible to also allow business students to enter the Learn-A-Thon, because the content is relevant for any professional.

Phase 1 - All students - Participate in the Learn A Thon - Introduction to CyberSecurity

The "Learn-A-Thon" runs between 23 October to 19 November. Your students need only to spend 6 hours of their time during the competition weeks.
In this part as many as students are required in order to allow your institution to gain entrance to  the next phase.

Phase 2 - Cisco European Battle Royale, a contest to become Cybersecurity champions

The Top 16 Academies participating with the highest points will be invited with a group of four students to a "Capture The Flag" competition on 1 December.
The competition will be at the complexity level of CCST CyberSecurity and CCST Networking Essentials.

Global Online Climathon on 27 October 2017

On October 27 there is a global Hackathon called Climathon. Participants are able to take part from their own city.

Last year, around 60 cities on all continents participated. We are expecting more than 100 participating institutions this year.

Innovation competences through Hackathons

Yvan Rooseleer (BiASC) was involved in Workshop 1.2 Innovation Competences and presented an initiative launched in cooperation with companies, namely the use of Hackathons to foster innovation competences and to teach hard and soft skills which are needed for the labor force. The Hackathon also serves as an example of regional cooperation amongst students and how to get them involved in social innovation challenges.

WORKSHOP 1.2: Innovation Competencies
Today we live in a world of continuous change. This is visible in societal challenges, such as climate change, energy resources, increased rarity of certain materials and, of course, demographic change. "Innovation competencies" are essential for graduates and professionals to be successful in this changing and evolving environment. This session will present and discuss innovation competencies, what they are, how they can be developed and how they can be assessed and recognised. The workshop will explore these questions in the context of higher education, as well as that of professional development.

JOEY, Netriders 2016 Winner from Belgium

After a month of bad sleep and sweaty palms in June 2016 I finally got my first place ticket to cisco HQ in San Jose, CA!
Luckily this was before president Trump so getting travel approval as a Belgian citizen was easy! :)

Our daily agenda of the week was completely filled up with a large range of activities.
We had meet and greets with higher ups in cisco even as high as Fran Katsoudas SVP and lots of the managers running several departments like netacad, corporate responsability.
There was a tour of compliance testing for several cisco hardware products.  These included noise output testing, heavy handling (shaking) testing, RF output... the works.

On tuesday we got to meet the technical managers who also served as our judges in the competition and they gave us an intro into IoT.
We had to work on a raspberry pi in combination with an Arduino uno board to see how sensors and actuators work. In the afternoon we had a big visit to the huge campus of Stanford
University and one of it's endless datacenter rooms housing nexus equipment and lots of fiber cabling.

The last day of our visit was a tourist tour of San Francisco.

What I took with me back home was a bunch of new friends, memories, LinkedIn contacts, better self-confidence, possible new opportunities and getting more comfortable in uncomfortable situations.

We will be running 3 levels of competition in Europe. At all three levels, the majority of the questions deal with technical skills but there will be some questions about Internet of Things (IoT) and career soft skills.

• CCNA - geared toward CCNA certifications and open to students currently enrolled in or recently completed the 3rd or 4th CCNA course
• CCENT - geared toward CCENT certifications and open to students currently enrolled in or recently completed the 1st or 2nd CCNA course
• IT Essentials - geared toward the IT Essentials course and open to students currently enrolled in or recently completed the IT Essentials course

Competitors self-select the one or two competitions they choose to participate in based on eligibility requirements. They must meet all eligibility requirements for the level or levels they select. If they do not meet eligibility, they will be disqualified. See more on eligibility at the bottom of this page. 

CiscoLive2017 Academy Day & OpenBerlin

  

About 40 delegates from Networking Academy Benelux took part in the CiscoLive2017 event in Berlin. Winners of the Benelux Smart City Marketing Hackathon were invited on stage to present their pitch.

On Wednesday 22 FEB we visited OpenBerlin Innovation Center where we were introduced to IoT projects from six different startups. Most striking were the demonstrations of drones as well as self-driving vehicles.

The Academy Day was on Thursday 23 FEB  and featured sessions about Netacad Content for Global Problem Solvers, Hackathon Pitches, Cisco Spark and DevNet Applications.

IoE Hackathon Brussels | Digital City Marketing with Intelligent Assistants | 1-2 DEC 2016

On 1 and 2 DECEMBER  2016 we are organizing a new Hackathon for students regarding Smart City Marketing with Interactive Digital Assistants and robots. The teams taking part are multidisciplinary teams with IT, multimedia, business, marketing and communication students. As usual, the winning team will receive sufficient funds for activities like taking part in international conferences and hackathons.

Thank you all again for the fantastic work you did to make Benelux Instructor Event 2016 so successful. I specially thank Pierre De Fooz for hosting us and organizing the logistics with the venue and the evening party. Great job.

From the reactions of the audience during and after the event, I can conclude that it was very well received.

The combination of the event with the hackathons organized in Belgium and Netherlands was a winner. Everybody liked the student presentations and it brought the hackathon concept really in the picture.

My sincere thanks go to Marc Khayat and Leonard Janer for hosting the really successful IoE workshops (all 4 of them!).

I won´t exaggerate when I say this was the best Benelux Event in 17 Years.

I´ll end with some metrix: in total 128 professionals and 31 students attended the event during the two days, a number we have not reached before.

Benelux IoE Hackathon Final in Seraing

A well-balanced and multidisciplinary Brussels team, YSA, won the first Benelux Hackathon Final in Seraing. Six teams from Belgium and the Netherlands took part in this new competition.

The winning team from Brussels consists of Business and IT students. During the preparatory hackathon in Brussels based on Smart Shopping Center the team developed a Smart Shopping Cart. The winners will be invited to an international Cisco DevNet Hackathon in the coming months.

All participating student teams were well prepared making it a very exciting final. The team in second place comes from Thomas More Geel in Belgium.
