From challenging internships to rewarding jobs
On 27 October 2022, BiASC and Cisco organised a Talent Connect Event (TCE) for college students in IT infrastructure, networking, and security. The goal is to informally connect students with channel partners offering internships and jobs. Most of the students attending are bachelor's degree students. An equal number are pursuing associate degrees in systems and network administration. There were also a number of master's students and adult education students.
Interesting and challenging internships in IT infrastructure, networks and security are hard to come by for IT students in their last year before graduation. Yet all IT students are able to sign an employment contract for a rewarding job before they graduate.
Wouldn't it be a great idea to create a natural flow from internship to employment? This is the main goal of the Talent Connect event organised by Cisco BeLux, Cisco CXC and Cisco Networking Academy at Cisco headquarters in Machelen/Diegem near Brussels.
About 90 students registered for the Talent Connect event. Most of the participants are interested in an internship before the end of their studies. Fifteen participants are specifically interested in a thesis project.
Cisco Channel partners are invited to talk informally with the graduates. The following Cisco Channel partners have been actively participating in the Talent Connect event (in alphabetical order): #Axians, #Cegeka, #ClimIT, #Computacenter, #Dstny, #Interligo, #Netropolix, #NTT Global, #Rank1, #Routz, #Simac and #TDSynnex.
Reactions of the participating students
One of the very first reactions
"For me this event was eye-opening on the universe of IT and Networking . Makes me wish i started this journey earlier . Now i really want to get my certifications and hopefully get a job in the field."Second reaction
"This type of event adds great value to my personal background. Sharing lunch with the employers allowed the students to be more relaxed during the interviews."Another student reaction
"The event was broad in a sense that it covered a lot of aspects of working at/with Cisco. I'd also describe it as personal - everyone talked to each other, everyone had fun. Even though it was a professional environment, there was a relaxed vibe. The food was great and I'm grateful for the effort."A reaction in Dutch
At the Talent Connection event, Cisco and the channel partners opened their doors to the future workforce. BiASC would like to thank Cisco BeLux, Cisco CXC, Cisco Networking Academy and the channel partners for their valuable efforts towards graduating students.
