Having talked to several Cisco Academies in the region, BiASC has started investigating different ways of using virtual hardware during labs with students or during instructor training.
Here are the possibilities that we are looking into.
-1- VIRL
Cisco has been developing VIRL in a new direction and is working on a new licencing scheme for VIRL. This might be available by 2018.
-2- Virtualized IOS/ NXOS and VMware vSphere
It is possible to run virtual Cisco Operating Systems on a VMware vSphere server
The licence for VMware vSphere is affordable for official VMware academies.
We have to research the cost of the Cisco virtualized OS.
-3- DevNet Sandbox
DevNet Sandbox is free for Cisco Academies. The system is scalable and there at least 50 hands-on labs available.
Only when there are too many users at the same time, the system might stall.
Unfortunately, users are not able to change the devices available in the sandbox.
-> We hope to learn more during the next two months and intend to organize an instructor workshop in the spring of 2018.
