What is a REST API?
An API allows one piece of software talk to another. A REST API is a standard way of talking between APIs using HTTP protocols
What is Network Programmability?
The ability for developers of network applications to interact with the SDN controller through REST APIs in order to implement business needs in the operation of the physical infrastructure.
What is a Sandbox?
In software, a sandbox is a testing environment that isolates untested code or users “messing around” from the main programming and published environments. DevNet has 4 APIC-EM sandboxes dedicated for NetAcad students to “mess around” in addition to their regular developer APIC-EM sandbox which we can also use.
What is an APIC-EM Controller?
The Cisco APIC-EM controller is integral to Cisco’s software defined networking (SDN) approach because it provides a single point for network-wide automation and control. It can be a physical device or software application. Similar to a traffic controller!
Why is an API important to networks?
The exchange of information between programmable network devices and software (SDN) is critical to implementing machine learning, automation, analytics reporting (aka Meraki)—i.e. enabling the new era of networking!
