We invite Benelux Higher Education Institutions who have a bachelor or associate degree program to take part in the Cisco Benelux Lighthouse Hackathon with one team of students. The winners will be invited to CiscoLive 2019 in Barcelona to demonstrate the results of their work. Twenty higher education institutions based in the Benelux are able to enroll with six students.
Apart from the students we also invite business companies, organizations and secondary school teachers with an interest in ICT education to participate as a coach or a jury member.
The hackathon will take place in Brussels at Odisee University College - Stormstraaat 2 - from 10-12 October 2018.

AIM OF THE CISCO BENELUX LIGHTHOUSE INNOVATION CHALLENGE
With the Lighthouse Pilot we have the intention to make more students decide to go for an ICT higher education. The idea is to organize events that influence more students to enroll in ICT degree programs. The event is co-organized by Cisco CSR, BiASC and Odisee UC.
THEME AND TOPIC OF THE CISCO BENELUX LIGHTHOUSE INNOVATION CHALLENGE & HACKATHON
The theme is to demonstrate the creative, social and business relevance of ICT higher education. Student teams will apply design thinking methods based on a given challenge. A team will need six highly talented ICT students, additionally with two creative marketing students. The exact challenge will be introduced during the kickoff session.
CISCO BENELUX LIGHTHOUSE INNOVATION STUDENT CHALLENGE & HACKATHON
The Lighthouse Pilot Hackathon is an event for higher education institutions. The hackathon will take place in Central Brussels. The event will take place with top teams of six students per institution. The Ideation & Design Thinking phases will start on 10 October. The second day is concerned with rapid prototyping and business/communication plans. The last day of the event competing teams will demonstrate their results to an internationals jury.

A top student team with a mix of skills is necessary to win the competition: design thinking, prototyping, programming, scripting, also: managing networks, cloud systems, cybersecurity, sensors, internet of things, big data, blockchain, machine learning, intelligent assistants, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality, multimedia, communication, business, marketing, ...

WHAT IS A HACKATHON?
- A “Hackathon” is not about computer “hacking”. It means “ACTIVE” learning - It is a three-day event promoting 21st century skills, design thinking and multidisciplinary team work - Students teams are solving an unknown challenge presented by a problem owner (external) - Key components: ideation, creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and interdisciplinary communication - A Hackathon needs a decent preparation - Participants are coached by a variety of experts and coaches.
